Wireless iPod connection

I have recently purchased a ipod. However, when I try to connect to the wireless in my apartment, it asked for a password. I have a laptop that can automatically picks up my wireleess. However the ipod cannot access due to the password. I do not have a password for my wireless connection. I cannot add the SSID and WPA to my ipod. So confused !!
